There are many Notre-Dame churches or cathedrals in this world but the most famous one is unmistakably the Gothic cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris). Construction began in 1163 under the vision of the Bishop of Paris, Maurice de Sully and during the reign of Louis VII. It continued in four stages that were executed by four different builders and architects from 1163 – 1250. The rest of the structure was completed in 1345. The famous Rose windows were installed in the 13th century and construction of the famous flying buttresses was done in the 14th century. Renovations, restorations and reconstructions on parts of the cathedral occurred over time. In 1831, Victor Hugo published The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The cathedral is the most visited monument in France.
