Pantheon was commissioned by Marcus Agrippa as a temple to all the gods during ancient Rome. It was rebuilt by Emperor Hadrian around 126 AD. The main structure is circular with a concrete dome. An oculus in the center of the dome let the light in. Two thousands years later, the dome is still the largest unreinforced concrete dome in the world. The interior of the dome features five rows of 28 coffers (sunken panels, seen in this image). The front to the structure is graced by a portico with three ranks of massive granite Corinthian columns. The structure was converted to a Roman Catholic church in the 7th century and was dedicated to St Marys and the the Martyrs. During the Renaissance the structure was also used as a tomb, and many famed Italian luminaries were buried there such as Raphael, Corelli, Italian Kings Vittorio Emmanuel II and Umberto I.
